MEISTERSTRASSE THAILAND

Thai handicrafts are quickly associated with colourful silk – it was pioneer Jim Thompson who made Thai silk production famous on the international stage.

But Thai handicrafts are so much more: the traditional weaving techniques for silk and cotton, the natural dyeing methods for a wide variety of fabrics, the highly developed wood crafts, the filigree art of goldsmithing, the ceramic production and the bamboo work for all kinds of objects - from sculptural interior design to fashion accessories - hold significant historical value and still reflect Thai identity today.

Culinary craftsmanship - from the production of dried fruit to the cultivation of the world's best jasmine rice - is also on everyone's lips.

The exceptional courage for innovation and thereby the combination of modern design with traditional craftsmanship in order to create new, contemporary products is a leading force in Southeast Asia.

Countless projects at national, regional and local level are helping to promote rural handicraft communities, initiate product development and open up a national market for Thai handicraft products.

Together with our partner organisations in Thailand, our aim is to provide an international stage for the enticing beauty of Thai handicrafts and the incomparable taste of regional specialties.
