Engineer David Wagner's speciality is the production of unique high class pipes, made to order and sold under the name "baff". Since he started his company in 1999 the pipe maker has manufactured 100 to 150 unique pipes - hand-crafted in his workshop near Traunsee lake. The pipe bowls are made of briar root (or French bruyère), the wood of Erica arborea. He obtains this extremely hard and heat-resistant wood in  Italy, France, Spain, Morocco or Algeria. The pipe's stems and mouthpieces are made from low-sulphur natural rubber or Acrylic. They are then lavishly decorated with appliqué ivory, antelope horn or amber.

The pipe's basic shape is chosen according to the customer's wishes. A pipe has to be tailored for the owner, only then will he (or she) be happy with it! Every customer has individual needs regarding smoking pipes. The artisan pipe maker attaches great importance to the stems and mouthpieces, the place where the smoker and the pipe meet. That's why he doesn't use regular machine-made stems, but makes them by hand, for his customer's delight.
