It is the balance between the understated elegance of his designs, the rich colours of the carefully selected stones and their brilliance that make his jewellery so unique. Goldsmith Christoph Freier favours harlequin and cabochon cuts, both of which feel wonderfully smooth to the touch. However, his favourite material remains gold, as it radiates a special warmth. The result is rings featuring an unexpected variety of gemstone colours that become the focal point on the finger, whilst the setting and band recede into the background.
It often takes years for an idea to mature and a theme to take shape – before Christoph Freier sets about creating a single piece of jewellery, a necklace, years during which the goldsmith searches the world over for suitable elements – antique coins, parts of Japanese belt buckles or historic samurai swords, old, richly decorated buttons from Asia, Egyptian faience, Arabic seal stones. And so unique jewellery is created, jewellery that tells stories, jewellery that is magical.
